I teach in the Kripalu style with an experimental mix of other yoga styles and techniques. I have been teaching yoga for 12 years and studying it for 22, and many of the things I've learned over the years make their way into my class, including, at times, Gamma Technique, lymphatic system massage, partner poses, restoratives, Iyengar style yoga, Kundalini breathing techniques, foot massage with balls, even belly dancing (as a warm up).
This is not power yoga -- it is gentle yoga that builds in rigor across the semester as we become more flexible, stronger, more balanced.
Each class is different. Some focus on lengthening our muscles, or on shoulder or hip opening, others on poses for relaxation, depression, opening our energy systems, or building strong bones. At the changing of the seasons we do yoga and breathing exercises to beef up our immune systems, during holiday party season we might do an acupressure face massage. In summer we focus on a different chakra each week, doing movements and breathing techniques that open and balance them all (in addition to the regular yoga) -- a fascinating journey!
Classes begin with a restorative and a breathing exercise to get ourselves "centered" after our busy day. These are followed by plenty of gentle warm-ups, the yoga poses and a long, lying-down, inch-by-tranquil-inch relaxation. Ahhhhh.
